A marae is a communally owned facility where visitors meet Maori strictly on Maori terms. This is where the Maori protocols, customs, language and etiquette are endorsed 100% without influence from the western world. Visitors meet local Maori and participate in a traditional welcome as though they are Maori themselves.

This is the oldest carved meeting house in the north and is situated in a rural setting.
The ancestral house is constructed in the tradional way with no nails in the main structure. Visitors view orginal designs painted with brushes made from the hair the people plucked from the tails of their dogs.

The Waitangi Treay Grounds is Northland's greatest icon. A place where Maori and European came together to sign New Zealand's founding document the Treaty of Waitangi.
