Once upon a time, in a city there were two people who desperately wanted a child. One day they were told that the woman was having a child.  One day the woman stared from their apartment window and saw a  beautiful  garden. She saw a plant and desperately wanted to make a salad out of it. She called her husband and said “Oh, dear husband please go and get that beautiful plant over on the terrace next door. I might die if I do not get it!” The husband stared at her in shock. “But, that is our landlord’s apartment garden! It would be breaking and entering! We could get kicked out of our apartment!” said the Husband. “But I could die!” said the Wife. That night the Husband slipped out of the window and jumped onto the landlord’s terrace. Then the picked the plant his wife wanted. He read the sign it said “Rapunzel”. When he got home his wife squealed with joy. “Oh, thank you! Thank you!” She quickly made a salad. “Delicious, simply delicious!” The weeks and months passed. Soon, her hunger grew. Again, she beckoned to her husband and said, “Oh, dear husband please go and get that beautiful rapunzel over on the terrace next door. I might die if I do not get it!”  That night the Husband slipped out of the window and jumped onto the landlord’s terrace. Then the picked the rapunzel his wife wanted. That time the landlord was waiting for him. “How dare you break and enter on my property! For this I want your apartment back!” The husband begged for mercy. “Oh please don’t do that! My wife is expecting a child! What if we can’t find a place to stay!?” The landlord lost her anger. “Expecting a child?” “Yes.” “Here is a deal, you may keep your apartment. On one condition. You give me your child.” “WHAT?!?!” “ And you may keep the rapunzel too. Won’t your wife die if she doesn’t get rapunzel?” Concerned for his wife’s life, he agreed. A few days after that he forgot about his promise the the landlord. In time a baby girl was born. Moments after the baby was born, the landlord stormed in. She snatched the baby from the mother’s arms. The husband suddenly remembered his promise. Then he told his wife. She cried and cried. The landlord told them, “You are never to speak to my newly adopted daughter Rapunzel. I have named her after the plant you took from my garden.” Soon she whisked out of the room, with baby Rapunzel. The little baby grew up to be a toddler. Her adoptive mother taught her how to walk, talk, read and write. Soon the landlord didn’t think of calling Rapunzel her adopted daughter. She thought of her as her biological child.  Soon Rapunzel grew up to be a young girl. Rapunzel took the name Zelda in school. She thought Rapunzel was too long. Zelda’s hair grew long. But she acted like a normal child. She had absolutely no idea that the woman she called “Mommy” stole her from her real mother.  Zelda’s real mother and father watched her grow up from their apartment window. Her Mommy set up a swing on the terrace for Zelda to swing on.  On Zelda’s 12th birthday her Mommy decided to lock her in her own apartment because Mommy thought she might loose Zelda to men. She moved Zelda’s things into her apartment. Zelda thought she was moving into her own apartment because  Mommy thought she was grownup. But Zelda didn’t really know the true answer. . . . Finally everything was moved in. Then Mommy told her that she would home school her in her room and that she was only to let her in. Zelda was very confused. She protested, “But Mommy, I want to go to school like everyone else!” “But do you want to be poor? Do you want to starve?!” Mommy screamed at Zelda. Zelda was horrified. Mommy had never screamed at her before. Mommy could not stand to see her child cry. She calmed her. The she said “Rapunzel, it will be too obvious for me to come and go down the stairs. I will go up and down the fire escape. But the thing is there are no stairs. So I am going to call you to throw down your hair by saying ‘Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down that hair so I can get up there.’ Okay?” “Okay Mommy.”  Many years past, and Zelda soon turned 17. Her mother called “Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down that hair so I can get up there.” Down came Zelda’s hair and up came Mommy. “Mom?” said Zelda “Yes?” “Did you bring the news?” “Yes I did. There is a new mayor.” “He has a son who is 18, a cat, and two Daughters who are 10 and 12.” “How. . . nice. Here is your meal Rapunzel. Good day.” “Bye.”  As soon as Mommy or Patricia Flink (her real name), reached her office she got a call. “Hello, this is Alenville reality, and we have someone who would like to rent an apartment at your apartment building.” Mrs. Flink replied “Of course. How many people?” “Four people and one cat.” “Okay. Tell them apartment 231, 3 rooms, 2 bath.” “Thank You.” The next day the family moved in. Mrs. Flink was sitting at her desk when the new family walked in. “Hello Mrs. Flink. I am Regan McLyonn. These are my kids Robert, Emily, and Luna. Oh, and my cat, Joe.” Mrs. Flink needed a second to realize there were two men in her presence. But no matter. “Yes. Apartments 231. Oh and on the terrace there is a playground I built for my daughter when. . .” “When?” said Robert “Don’t ask personal questions Robert!” said Mr. McLyonn “When she was alive. She died in a car crash.” Even though she was lying she really had lost her daughters love. “Oh. I am so sorry.” said the McLyonn Family. Mrs. Flink handed them the key and pointed down the hall. “Well here it is.” said Mr. McLyonn “Emily, Luna you share a room.” “Okay dad.” said Luna. “Dad, I’m gonna explore.” said Robert. “Be back before nightfall.”   Robert explored the building. He saw a staircase near the landlords office. He climbed up the stairs, but it was locked. He decided not to try to open it. He walked down the hallway. He saw someone walk into the fire escape. What is that person doing? thought Robert. Then he heard “Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down that hair so I can get up there.” He hid behind some storage boxes and waited until for person to leave. As soon as he was sure he said “Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down that hair so I can get up there.” Down came the longest hair Robert had ever seen. Up he climbed. When he reached the top window, a girl about his age was up there. She looked at him with no expression. “Hello.” said Robert. “Get out.” “Well if I do, may I know your name?” “Zelda. Or Rapunzel. Now get out!” Zelda said coldly. Zelda threw her hair down and Robert climbed down. “May I come again?” asked Robert. “Only after midnight.” Robert was filled with joy.  Many times he visited again and again.
